This performance is all about the relationship between the weight and me, connected through a pulley system. What can we do together — the weight, the rope, the hoop and me? I explore how I can practice my circus discipline with fewer restrictions because there is no rigger, but also with more restrictions because the weight is always there, always responding, always in my way.

dUO WITH ANNE VAN HELTEREN, WORK IN PROGRESS
2025 – ONGOING
With this work, we want to explore the expressive, playful, and sonic potential of an ordinary bicycle in performance. At the heart of the piece: a bike, a microphone, a loop-station and two acrobats. Our aim is to create a playful outdoor circus performance of around 15 minutes, suitable for a 360° stage/ circular audience. Through floor- and partner-acrobatic movement, physical theatricality and play, the performance will take shape and the bike will slowly come alive, as our third performer on stage.
We want to thank Het Oude Badhuis in Antwerp for providing us with a residency space, and the Musica Maxima foundation for supporting the project financially.
[THE LIVING ROOM]

The living room is about a lamp becoming alive. The lamp is alone as living object in the room and she can just move, when her stand moves, the hoop. The hoop is the expression of life and not always as cooperative as the lamp would like. It is about the exploration of an ordinary space which becomes in an absurd and cute way animated. For this piece I explore the space on stage, the aerial hoop attached to three different pully systems and manipulated by three external riggers can move through the whole space and not as usually, just up and down.

DUO WITH VERONICA GARCIA

Push, pull, play is a duo created and performed by me and Veronica Garcia. It is a piece about the relationship between us and the two hoops which are connected with a counterweight system. It is a play between two sister-like characters. What happens when one lets go of the other?

Floating created in two different residencies in Italy and Switzerland in 2023/2024.
In this performance, the absence of an external person to do the rigging is crucial. My goal is to be independent but interconnected, maintaining a balance and trust between myself, the system and the hoop. A symbiotic relationship, a continuous give and take.
